The Communications Processor (CommProc) is a set of APIs and pre-constructedframeworks which build the components (clients and resources) of amessage-based distributed-computing system.
Pre-built frameworksare provided for standard distributed-computing components: client, server, router, and filter, as well as special purposeframeworks such as logging, delivery (email, speech, fax, and pager),client multiplexing, andsystem administration. A pre-built internet framework for integration withthe Apache HTTP server is also provided.New framework types are assembled from the CommProcAPIs. The frameworks become working components with the addition of thecustomer application-specific code. These components implement the basic distributed-computing model: receive a message, transform it,send a message. They can be arranged into any appropriate topology, such assimple client-server, hub-and-spoke, threaded, matrix or peer-to-peer.
